San Francisco 49ers rookie quarterback Alex Smith had one of the roughest seasons ever endured by a rookie quarterback. He missed a handful of games due to a sprained right knee, he only completed half of the passes he attempted, and he didn't throw a touchdown pass until the final game of Vikings Brett Favre jersey
the season. Still, Smith finished the season with two straight victories and offered 49ers fans a glimpse of what could be a very promising future. After losing the preseason competition for starting quarterback, Alex Smith was forced to watch from the sidelines until week 4 when he replaced an ineffective Tim Rattay. He was actually half-decent in that game, completing 6 of 10 passes for 34 yards with no interceptions. His next two outings, both blowout losses, where not quite as promising. He failed to reach the 100-yard plateau in both games and was intercepted five times. He also suffered a knee injury in the second contest, against Washington, and was forced to miss the next five games. After a close 17-10 loss against the Cardinals, in which Smith threw for nearly 200 yards and completed 66.7% of his passes but was also intercepted three times, the young signal caller offered up his two worst performances of the season. In weeks 14 and 15, albeit against two playoff bound opponents, Smith completed 40.3 percent of his passes (against the Seahawks) and then 33.3 of his passes (against the Jaguars). Although he only threw two combined interceptions in those two games he somehow posted a quarterback rating of under 35 in both games. Then things finally started to go in the right direction. Smith posted his best quarterback rating of the season in a Week 16 win against the St. Louis Rams (98.7). He then threw his first touchdown of his young career in Week 17 against the lowly Houston Texans, leading the 49ers to an overtime victory and a 4-win season (twice as many wins as last year).Smith will definitely have to improve on his touchdown to interception ratio (1:11), and it doesn't help to be sacked 29 times in 7 1/2 games. If 4 Brett Favre White jersey
Smith and his offensive teammates - especially Frank Gore and Brandon Lloyd - can come together and find their niche, the San Francisco 49ers could finally come out of the offensive funk that they have been enduring for the past two seasons.
